EarthTeam’s mission is to empower teens to become lifelong environmental stewards through experiential education, skills development and the building of community connections.

Their 2014 grant project began with the development of an afterschool program at San Lorenzo High School with ten motivated students who met ten times to design and plan two campus-wide beautification events. Previous to the events, a short video was created to encourage other students to attend the tree planting and litter cleanup workdays.

The 10-member student group led the events at which native trees were planted to shade classrooms and provide habitat, and a campus trash assessment and cleanup was done. A dedicated Instagram account served to document and share the efforts. Students and interns also staffed a Zero Litter table at one of the campus beautification events to educate the many community members who attended.
