After a very rainy winter, let's get outside and enjoy our beautiful, "waterful" Bay Area! Earth month is a great time to clean up litter and debris that wind and rain have carried off the streets into the storm drains and from there into our creeks and the Bay.
Each year, Earth Day cleanup volunteers make a big difference for wildlife and the beauty of our waterways. During last year’s Earth Day activities in Oakland alone, over 2,700 participants collected more than 240 cubic yards of trash and more than 540 cubic yards of weeds and green waste!
The Clean Water Program encourages citizens to stop litter at the source by always placing trash in garbage cans or recycling containers, buying reusable instead of disposable products and minimizing packaging as much as possible.
